The Billing Specialist Senior serves as a link between charging departments and Revenue Integrity, ensuring the consistent maintenance of accurate and compliant charges. Under close supervision, this role provides support in various aspects of laboratory business, including outreach customer management, laboratory billing, coding, reconciliation, and resolution of billing discrepancies. Additionally, the position acts as a liaison between outreach customers and the Cone Health Department of Laboratory Services, working closely with Laboratory Directors, the Executive Director of Laboratory Services, and other members of the Laboratory Team to facilitate effective collaboration.

Helps conduct laboratory billing, coding, and reconciliation of billing discrepancies.

Assists with audits of laboratory coding as necessary.

Completes daily assignments in the hospital information system's work queue for billing.

Submits requests for proper lab charging through the Charge Master Description process.

Conducts an annual review of laboratory coding and identifies necessary changes or updates.

Assists with unusual billing issues to the responsible party and ensures resolution.

Creates monthly billing invoices for Outreach customers.

Develops and maintains relationships between Cone Health Laboratories and Outreach Customers, providing assistance during regulatory inspections.

Identifies problems and opportunities for improvement, proposes appropriate solutions, and involves others in the implementation process.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION :

Required : 2+ years of experience in laboratory billing

Preferred : Hospital laboratory billing experience

EXPERIENCE :

Required : Associate Degree in Health Administration, Medical Information, Medical Billing and Coding, Business Administration, Laboratory Science, or a related field.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION / REGISTRY / LISTING :

Preferred : Medical coding and billing certification
