PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY :
The Department of Psychiatry and Mental Wellness Medical Director will work in partnership with the department’s and organization’s leadership teams to support overall direction for the practice, fostering growth in patient volume and in practice income while providing excellent patient care services and resident and student training.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Clinical
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to clinical practice psychiatry.
- Maintain own panel of patients with scheduled patient care time at the Psychiatry clinic.
- Participate in the faculty on-call system.
Teaching
Participate in teaching activities for residents, fellows, and medical students.Promote and participate in continuing education programs of the division.Research
Demonstrate commitment to community-based health sciences and research.Promote scholarly activity where appropriate.Administrative
Assure that the department provides a setting in which departmental teaching functions are carried out in a manner that makes learners (primarily residents and medical students) feel welcome.Guide development of policies and procedures, including hours, services, patient flow, and protocols for various medical services, in collaboration with Clinical Operations Director and Administrative Director.Support overall direction for quality assurance activities within the department.Work with Division's Administrative Director and the scheduling system to assure that the department is adequately staffed with physicians and other healthcare providers.Represent the department on appropriate MAHEC committees.Provide input for the development and implementation of annual and long-range plans for the psychiatry department, which include projections of income and expenses, staffing needs, practice outreach / expansion, and marketing.Monitor the position of the department with respect to the changing environment of managed care in the Asheville community.Work closely with the activities of the other leaders of MAHEC to ensure effective communication, ongoing collaboration, alignment, and to maximize results.This role description is a general description of the essential job functions. Licensure to practice medicine in North Carolina.Certification by the specialty board in Psychiatry.Minimum of 3 years’ experience, educational and administrative abilities and experience.SCHEDULE :
Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday – Friday, 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and / or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP :
Position reports to the Chair of MAHEC Department Psychiatry and Mental Wellness.
