Summary Description

Support the Sociology Department, faculty and students, by managing our office and administrative work.

Work location On-site : This position operates on campus Pay Band 4 Anticipated Salary Range $19.25 to $23.88 per hour Pay Information The pay range reflects base pay for positions in a given pay band across the college. Individual rates are determined within the range by factors including one’s qualifications, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same band and department budget.   • General Office Duties : Coordinate all office operations; greet students and visitors; perform wide-ranging administrative tasks; assist in publicizing events; complete paperwork for student workers; process student awards; assign advisors to new majors; work with Chair to oversee student records, faculty personnel files and the department budgets.
  • Classroom, Program and Instruction Support Duties : Coordinate classroom assignments; assist in creating the teaching schedule and catalogue descriptions; assist faculty in ordering teaching materials and posting online materials; facilitate field trips and extended fieldwork, including coordination of travel, student applications, billing and financial aid.
  • Faculty Search and Promotion Support Duties : Provide support for faculty searches : assist with posting, advertising, and application review; correspond with candidates; schedule interviews; make travel reservations; track and reconcile expenses. Provide support for faculty promotions : organize all materials collected for review.
  • Events Support Duties : Coordinate planning for all events, such as lectures, receptions, student events and class visitors, including creating announcements, programs, arranging for catering, travel, honoraria payments, etc. as needed.
  • Budget / Financial Duties : Assist the chair in oversight of the budget, track expenses, process reimbursements, coordinate budget requests for capital improvements, help to manage faculty p-cards and research budgets.
  • Does this position require driving CC vehicles / being insurable under CC's insurance plan? No Required Qualifications : Some college or Associate’s degree plus a minimum of three years of related experience; ability to work independently, accurately, and with discretion; high level of resourcefulness, diplomacy, and professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality; outstanding customer service skills; capable of working with timelines and able to navigate shifting priorities with ease; excellent written and verbal communication skills; intermediate level of computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, use of databases, web browsers, and budget management software.
