SUMMARY

An instructional support / design specialist will provide academic support for students to be able to achieve their academic goals. This position will collaborate with instructors to find areas where students struggle and find ways to address those situations that benefit student learning. In addition, they will provide support in the management of courses on the district LMS (Canvas), and guide the implementation of instructional strategies and classroom management.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • A minimum of three years experience in teaching with a preference of experience teaching in middle school science / math or higher
  • Knowledge and / or experience in :
  • Effective instruction strategies and research-based practices
  • Theory and practice of teaching
  • Learning management systems
  • Ability to effectively work with faculty, staff, administration, and industry professionals
  • Computer proficiency with different platforms and software applications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Academic Support

  • Work collaboratively with the program instructors to identify students that are in need of assistance in academic areas
  • Provide academic support to students to include math, reading, science, and other program-related areas
  • Work collaboratively with the assessment center to evaluate student competency levels and provide support for the student to reach their goals related to their program area
  • Understand the processes of the assessment center in order to be able to fill in if necessary
  • Coordinate and instruct students utilizing a variety of delivery methods to include but not limited to : individualized, small group, large group, and computer-based
  • Instructional Support

  • Provide guidance to instructors in instructional practices and classroom management
  • Provide support to / for :
  • update and maintain courses on the district LMS
  • improve, update, and maintain instructional materials for each program
  • new instructors in transitioning from industry to teaching
  • Assist instructors with continuous revision and implementation of a program plan of study to ensure satisfactory academic progress for each student
  • Professional

    Participate in local, state, and national organizations related to career and technical education, curriculum, instructional material, and educational technology.

    Other

    Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the administration.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The primary work environment is in an office environment that regularly requires employee to sit for extended periods of time. Requires reliable, dependable and punctual attendance.
