Job Description and Duties

District 8 - South Region - Riverside Maintenance

Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent, the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the activities of a crew engaged in highway maintenance. This position is located in a metropolitan area with high volume multi-lane freeways. The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Class "C" Driver's License. The incumbent must have ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of others; operate and care for maintenance equipment; prepare preliminary budget estimates and reports; and interpret simple blueprints and sketches; the ability to keep records of employee time and materials and equipment used; detect unsafe conditions and practices; and plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate safety training programs. Emergency response is required outside of normal work hours.

The position is based in an office at a maintenance station with artificial lighting. The incumbent will use a personal computer with keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Will also work in the field driving throughout the section and on foot. The supervisor's section includes mostly metropolitan areas with high-density freeways with hot and mostly dry summers with temperatures in excess of 100 degrees.

New toState candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification orminimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and / or restrictions.
• The position requires a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
• The position(s) require(s) a valid unrestricted Class C driver’s license.

A valid, unrestricted Class C driver's license is required while performing duties associated with maintaining the State Highway system; a valid, unrestricted Class A or B license is desirable to train crew members on commercial equipment.
