Job Description
The Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for scheduling, maintenance, operation, and training in the Analytical Science and Engineering Facility core lab.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES) :
- Aids students and faculty in the selection, installation and upkeep of academic laboratory equipment used for instruction and research.
- Performs preventive maintenance on various equipment; constructs, tests, and evaluates equipment and processes; maintains laboratory equipment and instructs students in the proper use of equipment; establishes and oversees standard operating procedures.
- Machining and welding skills, along with proficiency inLab
- Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of laboratory equipment used for instructional activities.
- Updates equipment maintenance records and manuals and records; and, orders related laboratory materials and supplies. Provides assistance with ECS building / facility logistical functions.
- Handles general technician assignments (overseeing the moving of equipment or offices, etc.). Maintains a clean, organized work area.
Required Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : High School diploma or equivalent certification. Minimum one year of experience as a laboratory technician or related field.
Knowledge / Skill / Ability :
Mechanical aptitude and basic laboratory technical skills.Good writing skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.Working knowledge of Labview or willingness / aptitude to learn.Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals with varied backgrounds.Self-starter and ability to work independently without close supervision.Knowledge of safe working practices in compliance with OSHA and EPA requirements.Able to work a varied schedule.Preferred Qualifications Master’s or PhD in Engineering or closely related field. Physical Demands Light lifting : May be required to lift up to 10-15 pounds
