Associate Research Scientist Formulation Dried Formulations Development
Elemental Enzymes is looking for an Associate Research Scientist with a fascination for studying protein properties and the eagerness to be involved in the identification of conditions that enable biological molecules to perform at their best. The primary focus of this position is to contribute to efforts targeted toward developing formulation packages that increase the shelf life of proteinaceous actives and enable compatibility with common agrochemicals. The successful candidate will join a team of multidisciplinary scientists with the mission to develop sustainable, biological solutions that change the future of agriculture.
Job Description
- Independent planning, execution, and analysis of experiments to identify excipients that can enhance enzyme stability in dried enzyme formulations.
- Design and execution of experiments targeted towards improving upon the consistency of dried formulations.
- Initiation and management of studies aimed to determine longevity of target actives within experimental formulations under various environmental conditions.
- Identification of key takeaways from performed experiments that guide decision-making and / or inspire action.
- Efficiently communicate research concepts and progress to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the development and amendment of study protocols and data collection tools.
- Maintain detailed laboratory records and samples in an organized manner.
- Provide general administrative support.
- Additional responsibilities may be added at the discretion of management.
Required Experience
Masters degreein pharmaceutical chemistry, biochemistry, enzymology, protein chemistry, or a closely related field with 2+ years of experience in applied laboratory research or equivalent industry experienceBachelors degreein pharmaceutical chemistry, biochemistry, enzymology, protein chemistry, or a closely related field with 5+ years of experience in applied laboratory research or equivalent industry experience.Ability to independently execute, troubleshoot, and teach the evaluation of the integrity of target proteins within blends.Ability to analyze collected data following established methodologies, and to identify key takeaways from obtained results.Ability to extend previously applied workflows to new situations.Ability to provide new impulses to assigned research projects through comparative analysis of scientific literature.Ability to manage relationships with external collaborators.Ability to effectively communicate project progress to both scientifically trained and lay audiences.Experience recording detailed procedural steps, research observations, and data analysis in a laboratory notebook.Desired : Experience studying the effects of co-formulants on protein stability.Desired : Experience spray drying proteins.Desired : Experience in handling and evaluating of proteins.Desired : Experience in performing enzyme activity assays.Desired : Experience to efficiently manage hundreds of samples in parallel.Desired : Base knowledge of analytical methods for the detection of biomolecules (e.g., HPLC, MS).Proven ability to budget time and manage several distinct projects at once.Energetic and self-motivated individual able to work in a team environment with an eagerness to develop, learn, and adopt new methods.Physical Demands

Objects can be up to 45 pounds in weight.Manual Handling : Gripping, grasping, or applying pressure to objects using fingers and palms.Operating : Using tools and equipment including a work computer and other office devices such as printers, calculators, etc.Repetitive motion : Engaging in recurring movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers, such as typing, assembling components or pipetting.Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) : The worker is required to wear appropriate PPE as necessary for their role, including but not limited to gloves, safety eyewear, lab coats, hearing protections, and / or respiratory protection depending on the work environment and exposure risks.Physical Requirements
Sensory Touch : Assessing the size, shape, texture, or temperature of objects by touch, particularly with fingertips.Communicating : Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word, including providing detailed or critical instructions clearly, quickly, and accurately. Perceiving sound details at normal speaking levels. Alternative methods of communication can be utilized as necessary.Environmental Exposure : Those with this position must be able to work in Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory where there may be exposure to biological agents.
