Job description

Highmark Health Medical Director Pharmacy, Therapeutics, & Medication Safety - Lincoln, Nebraska

This role leads a Pharmacology & Therapeutics Committee and serves as a Medication Safety Champion. Responsibilities include reviewing drug proposals, chairing meetings to determine formulary changes, and maintaining objectivity. The role involves analyzing medication safety data, leading weekly network calls using a Just Culture approach, conducting Root Cause Analyses for adverse events, and advocating for improved medication safety practices to enhance medication safety and efficacy within the network.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pharmacology & Therapeutics Committee (35%) :
  • Review and analyze drug formulary proposals, clinical trial data, and relevant literature.
  • Coordinate with committee members and stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient meeting preparation.
  • Facilitate discussions and ensure productive and efficient meetings.
  • Guide the committee through the decision-making process for formulary additions, deletions, and changes.
  • Maintain a neutral and objective stance throughout the process.
  • Medication Safety Champion (35%) :
  • Analyze medication safety data and identify trends.
  • Prepare agendas and materials for network weekly medication safety meetings.
  • Conduct and coordinate weekly calls with network stakeholders utilizing a Just Culture approach.
  • Discuss medication safety concerns, updates, and best practices.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among network members.
  • Participate in root cause analysis investigations for medication-related adverse events.
  • Identify contributing factors and develop recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay abreast of current medication safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Advocate for medication safety initiatives within the network.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS : Required :

  • Doctorate degree in Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • 10 years of extensive experience in medication safety and clinical pharmacology.
  • Preferred : None

    SKILLS :

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    Pay Range : Minimum : $1.00

    Maximum : $999.00
