We are seeking a dedicated and engaging Chorus Teacher to lead weekly choral instruction for our 2nd-6th grade students , helping them develop their voices, confidence, and appreciation for music through group singing.

Position Overview :

The Chorus Teacher will lead a weekly choral class designed to introduce students to vocal technique, group singing, rhythm, pitch, and performance skills . This educator should be passionate about student-centered, collaborative music-making and able to inspire a love for singing while incorporating diverse musical traditions and cultural perspectives .

This role is a fixed, weekly commitment with the potential for additional programming and performances.

Schedule & Compensation :

  • Set Schedule : Mondays, 12 : 30 PM 2 : 45 PM (non-negotiable).
  • Compensation : $150 per visit .

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead Weekly Choral Instruction
  • Teach students proper vocal techniques, breath control, pitch accuracy, and harmony .

  • Select and arrange age-appropriate, engaging choral repertoire that reflects diverse cultural traditions and genres .
  • Use movement, rhythm exercises, and call-and-response activities to build musicality and confidence.
  • Encourage Expression & Teamwork
  • Foster a joyful, collaborative choral experience where every student feels included and valued.

  • Help students develop performance skills, stage presence, and musical confidence .
  • Create a positive and supportive atmosphere where students feel safe to explore their voices.
  • Prepare for Community Performances
  • Guide students in preparing seasonal performances and community presentations .

  • Work with school leadership to coordinate opportunities for students to share their singing with families and the broader community .
  • Integrate Music with MOSs Social Justice & Cultural Learning Framework
  • Introduce students to songs that reflect historical and contemporary social movements .

  • Encourage discussions about how music is used for activism, cultural expression, and storytelling .
  • Qualifications : Required :

  • Experience leading choral instruction or group singing for elementary or middle school students .
  • Knowledge of vocal pedagogy for young voices and ability to teach healthy singing techniques .
  • Ability to create a joyful, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where all students feel encouraged to sing.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to adapt lessons to different skill levels.
  • Punctuality and reliability to commit to the fixed weekly schedule .
  • Preferred :

  • Background in choral conducting, vocal coaching, or music education .
  • Experience incorporating multicultural and bilingual choral repertoire .
  • Familiarity with call-and-response, folk singing traditions, gospel, or social justice-based music .
  • Ability to accompany students on piano or guitar (preferred but not required) .
