The Schizophrenia and Psychosis Action Alliance (S&PAA) is a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers to treatment, survival, and meaningful recovery for individuals living with schizophrenia and psychosis spectrum disorders. This support can mean the difference between isolation and connection and can help individuals live independently to their fullest potential.
Summary :
The Schizophrenia & Psychosis Action Alliance (S&PAA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is seeking a dedicated part-time Research Assistant. Our research initiatives are aimed at improving care, reducing stigma, and promoting equity for individuals living with schizophrenia and psychosis. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful research and advocacy projects that center the voices of those with lived experience, caregivers, and communities disproportionately affected by schizophrenia.
The research assistant will support initiatives that :
- Prioritize the preferences and needs of individuals with schizophrenia and their caregivers in treatment development
- Explore strategies to increase access to high-quality care
- Investigate and better understand illness awareness
- Document the economic, societal, and humanistic impacts of schizophrenia
The research assistant will be directly supervised by Dr. Arundati Nagendra, Director of Research and Scientific Affairs at S&PAA.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct semi-structured interviews, literature reviews, develop and program surveys, and conduct qualitative and quantitative data analyses.Prepare, organize, and clean datasetsTranslate research findings for diverse audiences, including individuals with schizophrenia, caregivers, clinicians, and the public.Contribute to peer-reviewed manuscript preparation and have opportunities for co-authorship and presentations.Manage administrative tasks such as IRB applications and research documentationParticipate in regular mentorship meetings to discuss professional development and career goals.Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, psychology, public health, social work, or a related field. Master's degree or current enrollment in a graduate program is a plus.
Key skills, Knowledge and Personal Characteristics :
Strong interest in schizophrenia research and advocacy.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and reference management software (e.g., Zotero or EndNote). Familiarity with qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Dedoose) and statistical tools (e.g., SPSS, R) is a bonus.Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.Key Competencies :
