Summer Camp Assistant Teacher

Position Summary : The Summer Camp Assistant Teacher is a part-time, seasonal, benefits ineligible position that reports to the Director of Extended Day in support of the school’s Extended Day Program. This program includes auxiliary childcare and enrichment programs of the Fay School such as the Stay at Fay Extended Day program, the After School Activities program, the school’s FAYcation summer camp, Play at Fay Day camps, and other auxiliary programs devised to benefit the Fay School community. The Assistant Teacher provides flexible childcare to create an environment conducive to learning and personal growth. The position provides child supervision and brings a creative and energetic spirit, encouraging children to learn through activities and experiences. The Assistant Teacher establishes effective working relationships with children, staff and families.

Responsibilities include the following :

Provide supervision and guidance in accordance with program policies and objectives, suitable to the age and needs of the students.

Understands the mission and policies of the school and, when questions or concerns arise, raises them with appropriate colleagues and supervisors.

Collaborates with colleagues in the design and implementation of the programs.

Models integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all persons as well as an appreciation for racial, cultural, religious and gender diversity.

Monitors student safety and always maintains supervision ratios. Supports the school and its Leadership.

Qualifications :

Post-secondary degree preferred.

Child supervision experience in a day program preferred. Experience working within a school setting preferred.

Ability to establish effective working relationships with other faculty, staff, vendors, students, and parents.

Ability to work well in a team.

Ability to write and speak English effectively.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment :

Ability to perform certain physical tasks including sustained standing and walking, navigating stairs and hills, kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs, monitoring children and the immediate environment visibly and audibly and the ability to give audible instructions that can be understood by English speakers in a loud environment.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions including rain, cold, heat, etc. and on various surfaces, some inclined, including grass, dirt, trails, decking, pavement and concrete.
