Job Description

Key components of this position will include concept on existing products and product ideas to develop innovative designs that attract consumers.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities :

  • Strong aesthetic sensibility and ability to visually and verbally communicate ideas through sketches, renderings, and presentations.
  • Draft sketches and illustrations of potential products or enhance existing products to improve consumer appeal.
  • Research design trends, product limitations, and cost of production materials and labor.
  • Perform research on appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production methods, and market characteristics.
  • Work with engineering, marketing, production, sales, and other departments to establish and evaluate design concepts for manufactured products.
  • Research and help select new Colors, Materials, and Finishes (CMF) for future products
  • Physical prototyping and model fabrication with various materials and techniques to convey design concepts in a tangible manner.
  • Create technical documents such as manufacturing instructions, operating instructions, owner's manuals, and design / engineering guideline documents.
  • Develop manufacturing protocols as needed.
  • Occasionally attend trade shows and exhibitions to represent the company and gain insights into market trends.
  • Occasionally undertake projects beyond traditional boat design to support the overall goals and success of the company.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Education and / or Experience required :

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design.
  • Design experience, either through paid positions or educational opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of sketches, exploded views, and a good sense of materials, color, and textures.
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Extensive knowledge of 3D CAD software; Rhinoceros 3D is preferred, but knowledge of SolidWorks, NX, and AutoCAD is beneficial.
  • Understanding of human factors and ergonomics.

    • Physical Requirements :

  • Must be able to bend at waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds when necessary.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in non-climate-controlled environment
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions, normal office environment or factory environment that is not climate controlled. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The factory in certain areas maintains a high fiberglass and dust environment.

    Personal Protective Equipment might be required in certain areas of the factory including but not limited to safety glasses, respirator, hearing protection, gloves and protective garments.

    Employees in safety-sensitive positions must report to work fit for duty and must remain fit for duty throughout their work day. To be fit for duty, the employee must not be impaired by alcohol, illicit drugs, or medication.
