The Adaptive Program Specialist is responsible and accountable for overseeing the Challenger program activities and events within an assigned area.  This position must emphasize customer service, the mission statement and work with program retention and promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Sr. Program Director in marketing and promoting adaptive programs to athletes, families, volunteers and donors by attending resource fairs and speaking engagements as well as social media, website and in house marketing tools.
  • Provide assistance and support to athletes who have varying needs during programs and events. Coach, demonstrate and guide volunteer buddies to provide same support.
  • Supervise and lead practices, guiding volunteer coaches and buddies on the activity, best practices for adaptations and safety procedures.
  • Responsible for equipment, field / court set up , safety, and a fun, controlled session / event atmosphere for all Challenger activities.
  • Responsible for managing Challenger volunteers including recruitment, on boarding, tracking, communication and retention.
  • General filing and other administrative duties.
  • Maintain knowledge of risk management policies and procedures, including Emergency Action Plans.
  • Qualifications

  • Associates’ degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum one year experience in adaptive programming.
  • Certifications :
  • Current First Aid.

  • Current CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer OR Adult / Child / Infant CPR and AED.
  • Current Administering Emergency Oxygen.
  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skills in recreation for all ages and abilities in all areas of youth sports.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 2-3 weeknight evenings and some weekend hours.
  • Ability to travel within the Greater Kansas City area and transport program equipment.
  • Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.
