Job description

Job Overview :

The Structural Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the structural integrity of wood-based building systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in wood and timber structures, from residential to commercial applications, and be adept at using advanced engineering software for modeling and analysis. You will collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineers to deliver high-quality, safe, and efficient designs that meet building codes, sustainability goals, and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Design, analyze, and detail structural systems utilizing wood, timber, and engineered wood products (e.g., CLT, glulam, LVL) for various building types and applications.
  • Perform structural calculations, simulations, and material selections to ensure structural integrity, stability, and compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Design trusses and other structural wood products.
  • Prepare and review detailed structural drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Provide technical expertise and support during construction to resolve engineering issues and ensure proper execution of designs.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineers to integrate wood systems into building designs.
  • Assess and evaluate the structural performance of existing wood structures for renovation, retrofit, or sustainability upgrades.
  • Ensure all designs meet sustainability goals and minimize environmental impact through responsible material selection and use.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, building codes, and new technologies related to wood structures and materials.
  • Assist in conducting site inspections to ensure compliance with engineering designs and specifications.
  • Participate in project meetings, presenting engineering findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a focus on wood or timber structures preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the ability to become licensed in the near future.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in structural engineering, with a strong emphasis on wood systems.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software.
  • Proficiency in Mitek design software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate within wood-based systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience with sustainable building practices and LEED certification is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance in all engineering work.
