REGIONAL DISPATCHER APPRENTICE
DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS
CITY OF WORCESTER
The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Regional Dispatcher Apprentice in the Department of Emergency Communications. Under the general direction of the Senior Regional Dispatcher, the position is responsible for receiving and transmitting information accurately and rapidly via communications equipment for Police, Fire and EMS. All Police, Fire, and 9-1-1 calls are received and dispatched from a state-of the art emergency Communications Center.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS :
- Operate a computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) system
- Answer emergency and non-emergency telephone calls promptly and courteously
- Obtain complete information from callers and make a rapid and accurate determination of the nature and priority of each call
- Select and dispatch the most appropriate emergency response unit(s) in accordance with established user-agency policies and procedures
- Monitor safety of field personnel and dispatches assistance as required
- Special projects as assigned by supervisor and perform other related duties

High school diploma or equivalentAbility to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays. Overtime requiredExcellent communication skillsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Education, Public Administration, or a related fieldUp to date State 911 / APCO CertificationsOne (1) year of experience working with diverse and vulnerable populationsOne (1) year of experience working in a dispatch or call center environmentSALARY RANGE : $26.44-$32.38 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
