Hardware Design Engineer

Seeking an associate-level to mid-level Hardware Design Engineer to join a thriving, growing battery monitoring technology company in the Raleigh-Durham, NC. As a key contributing member of the Hardware Engineering team, the Hardware Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting electrical / electronic systems and products. This role will encompass defining product specifications, designing schematics and PCB layout, validating prototypes, and supporting manufacturing processes. Additionally, the Hardware Design Engineer will collaborate with the Operations team to support contracted manufacturers with test equipment, manufacturing procedures, and BOMs. This position reports directly to the Director of Hardware Engineering.

This is a direct-hire opportunity with benefits. The role is designed for an associate-midlevel candidate with a starting salary target of $90,000 but a senior candidate may also be considered at a starting salary target of $130,000. Candidates must be local to or relocating to the Raleigh-Durham metro area in NC, USA to fulfill the hybrid expectations of the role in Durham (2x per week in the office). No visa sponsorship or subcontracting arrangements are available.

Responsibilities of the Hardware Design Engineer :

• Write product design specifications and propose solutions in collaboration with Hardware Engineering team members.
• Engage in hardware, firmware, and software design.
• Improve proprietary electrical systems, products, components, and applications through thorough research and applying expertise in electricity and materials.
• New product development and support for existing products.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, define, and resolve developmental challenges.
• Build prototypes, conduct product testing, and validate designs to ensure meeting specifications.
• Maintain meticulous documentation of product design and developmental activities according to company policy.
• Perform root cause analysis on product issues reported from field usage, field trials, manufacturing experiences, and internal tests. Share findings with the team and make recommendations for design improvement.
• Evaluate new and emerging technologies and make recommendations for integration into product development.
