Job description

Applied Energetics is seeking Laser and Optic Research and Development Technicians to assist Technical Staff in the research, design, and development of high average power CW and pulsed laser systems and technologies. Primary responsibilities will be the development of optical testbeds, experiments, and data capture, and to perform other laboratory infrastructure development and support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Photonics or closely related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 2-5 years laboratory experience
  • Experience in the assembly and characterization of ultrashort-pulsed lasers and related optical processes.
  • Experience in handling and processing of optical fibers, including splicing, re-coating, testing, and procurement.
  • Capable of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Skilled at documentation of laboratory activities and processes.

Desired Qualifications

  • A.A. in Physics, Optics, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5-10 years related experience
  • Hands on working knowledge in short pulse lasers and amplifiers.
  • Hands on working knowledge in high average power fiber laser related technologies.
  • Security Clearance

  • This position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance. This can include Secret, Top Secret or Confidential based on the position.
  • Employment is contingent upon confirmation of eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter based on a Federal background investigation.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Must have the ability to work in a clean-room environment with hazardous chemicals, compressed gases, lasers, and high voltage on a regular basis, use personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, respirators, gloves, and aprons.
  • Safety Requirements :

  • This role is classified as a safety-sensitive position which involves a heightened danger that requires an employee's full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute the job.
