Position : Director of Elementary Education Certification : Intermediate Administrative Certificate (092) Work Year : 220 days Start Date : TBD Salary : Per WHAA bargaining agreement Deadline : July 19, 2024 Position : Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Curriculum, the Director of Elementary Education is responsible for the development, direction, coordination and evaluation of the, PK-5 language arts curriculum, PK-5 math, science and social studies programs, PK-12 reading program, PK-5 Library Media program, early childhood program, and Elementary SRBI related interventions. Qualifications : Intermediate Administrative Certificate (092). Five (5) years experience as a school or district administrator. Demonstrated success leading curricular and instructional improvement Skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, supervise various programs and personnel, and engage in large-scale program improvement initiatives. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills Effective communications skills including oral, written , and presentation abilities Duties : Facilitate the improvement of instruction and curriculum; lead the review and revision of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Prepare and administer the district budget as well as multiple state and federal grants (i.e. Title I, III, Right to Read, Open Choice). Implement all aspects of improvements in the PK-12 reading program including the Right to Read Grant Responsible for the planning, administration and supervision of the PK-5 district testing and assessment calendar. Prepare and deliver district-wide professional learning sessions for elementary school teachers. Supervise and evaluate district-wide curriculum specialists for mathematics / science, language arts / social studies, PK-8 reading, early childhood, and the K-5 Library Media Specialists. Facilitate the district’s Curriculum and Professional Development Council. Contribute to the planning and programming for the district Professional Learning and Evaluation Committee (PLEC). Lead vertical teams in reading / language arts, math, science, and social studies. Collaborate with the Director of Secondary Education in organizational leadership, instruction and curriculum, evaluation, and assessment to ensure alignment of activities related to student learning and teacher and administrator competencies. Work closely with elementary principals in the continuing evaluation of programs to improve student achievement. Develop and implement an effective communication and liaison network that includes administrators, teachers, curriculum specialists, parents, community members, and the CT State Department of Education.
