Senior Plastic Injection Molding Engineer

Summary :

This role focuses on developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods that align with product specifications and quality standards. The position involves recommending and implementing process improvements, managing new or revised product launches, and overseeing various aspects of production operations, including problem-solving, project management, and employee training.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Create or modify MasterCAM manufacturing solid models to define processes as needed.
  • Research, design, and develop process parameters, including material flow, venting, and cooling paths in injection molding dies.
  • Interpret complex part drawings and understand design intent, adhering to ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Coordinate new or revised product launches, including setting goals, training, and evaluating results.
  • Use project management techniques to define, document, and implement tools, gauges, fixtures, equipment, and programs for CMM, CNC, and EDM processes.
  • Design, develop, test, or source tools, machinery, and equipment to support recommended manufacturing methods.
  • Analyze products and processes to improve cost, quality, and efficiency.
  • Maintain and manage the accuracy of manufacturing routing databases, including operation sequences, labor hours, machine cycle times, and work instructions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Marketing, Production, Quality, and Purchasing, while maintaining project focus.
  • Review and validate mold designs during the initial validation stage and coordinate repairs and design changes for injection molds.

    Competencies and Skills :

  • Strong knowledge of lean principles and GD&T standards.
  • Proven ability to manage and complete multiple projects successfully.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, CAM, CMM programming, PC-DMIS, Microsoft Visual Studio, and database design in SQL Server is a plus.
  • Familiarity with basic webpage scripting is an advantage.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in plastic injection molding.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Primarily office-based work with extended periods at a computer.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.

    Work Environment and PPE :

    This role involves exposure to manufacturing noise, airborne chemicals, fine particulate dust, varying temperatures, and industrial lighting. The environment includes hazards such as moving machinery, vibrations, and occasional chemical exposure.

    Required PPE :

  • Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection when on the manufacturing floor.
  • Additional PPE as needed, such as safety footwear or specialized equipment.
