This Education Program Senior Specialist position serves the : Work Physiology Earnings Operation; Department of Human Sciences-Kinesiology and instruction in the Health and Exercise Science (HES) Kinesiology Program. In general, this position is responsible for creating and managing projects that involve applying HES industry knowledge and advanced understanding of exercise science concepts, principles, and technical capabilities. This position will be responsible for creating the timeline and steps to completion of such projects and support the activities of those involved in the project to advance the mission of the Department of Human Sciences and the Kinesiology Program. These projects are organized into the three funding sources for the position and they are :
30% - In support of the University’s goal to be the healthiest University in the world, this position is responsible for managing the Faculty and Staff Fitness Program (FSFP) within the Department of Human Sciences (DHS). This position will actively manage all aspects of the FSFP including (a) expanding membership and enhancing member engagement to cultivate a vibrant FSFP program; (b) managing the day-to-day business functions; (c) developing and monitoring a budget in consultation with the fiscal officer and coordinator; and (d) coordinating with stakeholders and other OSU programs to advance FSFP wellness initiatives. This position will also identify, train, and supervise assigned staff and student interns within the FSFP and other lab environments. This position will also promote fee-for-service opportunities for clients seeking fitness testing and related areas that support research operations and provide services to key stakeholders seeking fitness testing like professional sport teams and emergency medical services. This position will seek out and liaise with potential clients to grow these fee-for-service opportunities.
50% - The Education Program Senior Specialist will serve as the Building Coordinator for the PAES building, engage in appropriate service activities, partner with the EHE Development office to lead tours of the labs, support the transition of new faculty into their labs, and be the facilities point person for engagement with the college and other entities as needed. The position will advise and support the activities of the Liaison for HES and Kinesiology Program Chair. This position will coordinate with faculty and GTAs on multiple sections of undergraduate HES labs (KNHES 5590, 5685, 5500), identify the GTAs / staff teaching each lab section, train GTAs as necessary, and identify and schedule the labs sections each semester. The Education Program Senior Specialist will also be responsible for working with contractors to maintain and repair the laboratory equipment and purchase new equipment and supplies as needed. The individual will also coordinate and / or administer lab safety training and programs; perform record keeping for facility and personnel regulatory compliance; coordinate with campus offices; and collaborate with investigators to maintain specialized laboratory equipment. Additionally, the position will partner with faculty and GTAs to facilitate access to the needed space and equipment necessary to conduct research in the labs.
20% - The Education Program Senior Specialist will provide independent instruction on an annual basis for six credits worth of HES coursework via distance learning and / or in-resident learning formats. Typically, this position will teach the equivalent of three credits of HES coursework per semester (Fall and Spring) along with coordinating the undergraduate labs (KNHES 5590, 5685, 5500). The typical coursework will be at an advanced level necessitating the instruction of complex content, processes and procedures in HES.
