Job Summary

A Concrete Takeoff Engineer in Estimating assists the Concrete Division by gathering prices, performing quantity take-offs, and delivering bids.

Division Manager, Estimating Manager, Estimators, Estimating Administrator and Takeoff Manager

Typical Duties

  • Develop a thorough knowledge of the plans, specifications, and all bid related documents.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and job site visits and convey all information and photos obtained at these meetings to the estimator.
  • Assist Estimators by performing a detailed quantity take-off with accurate calculations.
  • Obtain and review bid documents to adequately perform the project quantity take-off.
  • Schedule a pre-takeoff meeting with the Estimator before the take-off is started to review all phasing, bid form requirements and other information to perform the take-off in the correct format.
  • Solicit subcontractor and material quotes as required and maintain documentation for all good faith efforts in accordance with specifications.
  • Assist the Estimator in bid closeouts including compiling and reviewing material and subcontractor quotes. Ensure all project-related documentation is in accordance with Company established standards.
  • Assist in transitioning all estimating information to operations on all successful projects.
  • Assist operations with quantity take-offs for current projects as needed.
  • Meet all deadlines successfully.
  • Assist with bid deliveries allowing enough time to complete bid documents over the phone with the Estimator.
  • Maintain good client and business partner relationships.
  • Internally help foster an efficient, productive environment with co-workers.
  • Spend time developing and mentoring others who are less experienced.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and / or ability required. Education and Experience : undergraduate or associate degree in construction management, estimating, civil engineering or equivalent in construction related experience preferred.

Language Skills : must be able to read and write in English; bilingual in Spanish helpful but not required.

Mathematical Skills : an understanding of basic geometry, algebra necessary to calculate volume, area, and tonnage.

Reasoning Ability : must have strong problem solving, analytical skills and reading comprehension and be able to deal with both standardized and non-standard situations with many variables.

Computer Skills : must be fluent in Microsoft Office Suite and the Google Workspace. Individuals in this position will also need to be able to learn to use innovative technologies as they evolve or are implemented, including takeoff and estimating software.

Interpersonal Skills : the ability to interface and collaborate with a wide variety of people including clients, employees, managers, agencies, and the public as well as to self-manage time and schedule.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registration : valid driver's license and clean driving record
