Salary for this position is $100,000+ (more based on years of applicable experience). There are annual reviews with pay increases based on satisfactory performance.
Job Responsibilities
Strong leadership skills, high integrity, accountability, excellent communication, empathy and compassion, conflict resolution, resourcefulness, critical thinking, self-motivation, adaptability, and a strong commitment to quality and ethics are all necessary to be successful in this role.Plans, organizes, develops and directs the overall operation of our nursing department in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our community to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.Develops, maintains and periodically updates written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department as well as an ongoing quality assurance program.Maintains a reference library of written nursing materials (Regulations, Standards of Practice, Training, etc.) that will assist the nursing department in meeting the day-to-day needs of the residents.Makes written and oral reports / recommendations to the Administrator as necessary / required, concerning the operation of the nursing department.Develops methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of care.Assists in developing and delivering training for nursing department staff as well as all staff in the community.Serves as a primary / immediate contact when resident abuse, neglect and / or exploitation is suspected. Works with a team to conduct investigations, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, and reports findings to the Kansas Department on Aging.Oversees the delivery of quality care and services to our residentsStrives to maintain a safe working environmentCalculates and reviews the number of direct nursing care to resident ratios each day, meets goals set for PPD ratios.Ensures that the community is fully staffed for all nursing shifts to provide the highest quality of resident care.Oversees and works closely with the Infection Preventionist for infection control policies, procedures, and coaching.Works closely with the Director of Human Resources when evaluating, disciplining, coaching and educating employees.Works closely with the pharmacy, Team Health, and any other vendors that may be included in resident care.Serves on, participates in, leads and attends various committees of the community.Interviews and selects new nursing department employees.Works with Human Resources on retention planningPromotes the physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing of each residentReviews and resolves resident and family complaints and / or grievances, meets with residents and families as needed to assist in ensuring the resident and family are happy with the care provided.Routinely conducts rounds throughout all areas of the facility ensuring nursing employees are compliant with policies / regulations and the highest level of resident care is being provided.Provides nursing care as necessary.Serves as second in command when the Executive Administrator is unavailable.Reviews budget weekly to ensure nursing is staying within the budget that is providedKeeps abreast of economic conditions / situations, regulations, and nursing standards to ensure the continued ability to provide quality care.Ensures nursing staff are compliant on all required training and regulatory documentationEnsures effective communication is utilized with community staffWorks well with others and contributes to creating an effective interdisciplinary teamTakes initiative with the capability to engage in conflict resolution for residents, families, staff, and others as needed.Participates in staff appreciation events and marketing events as neededThis position requires the Director of Nursing to serve as a back-up on call for the nursing department. Must be able to take emergency calls 24 hours a day.Other duties as assigned.Job Qualifications
This is a salaried position with normal business hours and an on-call schedule. There is an occasional need for after-hours availability.Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university and a current, unencumbered active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas.Previous long-term care experience required.Previous supervisory experience required. Experience leading large teams of staff and managers is highly preferred.Must highly value teamwork within the nursing department and on the interdisciplinary team.This position requires the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.Must have the ability to make tough decisions under pressureMust serve as an educator and helper to the nursing department staff, and must have experience in leading a team and maintaining positive employee relations.This position works in the office area(s) and throughout the entire building and is subject to frequent interruptions.This position is involved with residents, staff, visitors, government agencies, etc under all conditions and circumstances. and is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, staff, and visitors.Job Benefits
