Job Title : Structural Welder Job Summary :

A Structural Welder specializes in the fabrication, repair, and assembly of structural components used in construction, manufacturing, and industrial applications. This role involves cutting, welding, and shaping metal parts to build structures such as bridges, buildings, ships, and pipelines. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and tools.

Key Responsibilities :

Welding and Fabrication :

Weld and join metal components such as beams, girders, and plates using techniques like MIG, TIG, stick, or flux-cored arc welding.

  • Fabricate structural parts based on blueprints, specifications, and work orders.

Material Preparation :

Cut and shape metal materials using tools such as torches, grinders, saws, and shears.

  • Measure and mark material dimensions to ensure precise cuts and alignment.
  • Structural Assembly :

    Assemble metal structures and components by fitting and welding parts together.

  • Align and secure parts using clamps, bolts, or jigs before welding.
  • Quality Control :

    Inspect welds and structures to ensure they meet industry standards and project specifications.

  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) when required to verify weld integrity.
  • Repair and Maintenance :

    Repair and reinforce existing metal structures by welding, cutting, and reshaping.

  • Maintain tools and equipment to ensure they function properly and safely.
  • Safety and Compliance :

    Adhere to all safety standards and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Work in compliance with welding codes (e.g., AWS, ASME) and company policies.
  • Collaboration and Communication :

    Work with engineers, foremen, and other trades to ensure project goals are met.

  • Communicate progress and issues to supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Skills and Qualifications :

    Technical Knowledge :

    Understanding of various welding techniques and processes.

  • Familiarity with blueprints, welding symbols, and schematics.
  • Tools and Equipment :

    Skilled in using welding machines, cutting torches, grinders, and other related tools.

    Attention to Detail :

    Ability to produce clean, precise welds and ensure structural integrity.

    Physical Fitness :

    Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in challenging environments such as heights or confined spaces.

    Certifications :

    AWS or other relevant welding certifications (preferred).

  • Forklift or crane operation certification (a plus).
  • Experience :

    High school diploma or equivalent (required).

  • Apprenticeship or prior experience in welding or metal fabrication (preferred).
  • Must have Shipyard experience
  • OSHA 10 required
  • Must be able to get DBIDS
  • Work Environment : Conditions :

    Work in outdoor or indoor settings with exposure to heat, noise, and fumes.

  • May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or in adverse weather conditions.
  • Schedule :

    May require overtime, shift work, or extended hours based on project deadlines.
