Position Type : Part-time hourly (10 - 15 hours a week)

Reports To : Chief Operations Officer or designee

Organizational Overview :

KIPP Memphis Public Schools is part of KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program), a national network of tuition-free, open-enrollment, public schools that are successful in helping students from educationally underserved communities develop the knowledge, skills, character, and habits needed to succeed in college and the competitive world beyond. There are currently 270 KIPP schools across the nation serving nearly 100,000 students. Founded in 2002, KIPP Memphis Public Schools (KMPS) serves over 1,800 K-12 students in our five North Memphis schools and almost 900 alumni on their journeys to-and-through college with our KIPP Forward Program. As a leader in providing high quality education for students who need us most, the KMPS team and family serves as a model of excellence and collaborates with other community organizations to raise the overall quality of education in Memphis. The mission of KMPS is to create joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose - college, career, and beyond - so they can lead fulfilling lives and build a more just world.

Position Overview :

The Parent Ambassador is a critical advocate for KIPP Memphis Public Schools, playing a pivotal role in student recruitment, promoting the KIPP brand, and championing the growth of the KIPP model in Shelby County, TN. This role is ideal for passionate parents or guardians committed to supporting KMPS' vision of academic excellence and community empowerment. Parent Ambassadors will actively engage with the community to attract new families, share personal experiences to highlight the transformative impact of KMPS, and advocate for the organization's continued growth and success.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Student Recruitment & Advocacy :
  • Actively engage in community outreach to recruit prospective families and students to KMPS schools.
  • Share positive experiences and success stories from KMPS to inspire and attract new families.
  • Represent KMPS at community events, school fairs, and other forums to promote enrollment opportunities.
  • Work closely with each school's recruitment team

2. Promoting the KIPP Brand

  • Advocate for the KIPP model by communicating its mission, values, and achievements to diverse audiences.
  • Participate in social media campaigns, community presentations, and other promotional activities to elevate the KIPP brand.
  • Partner with KMPS leadership to identify opportunities for storytelling and brand-building within the local community.
  • Wear KIPP attire to community and school events to represent KMPS and help promote the KIPP brand.
  • 3. Community Engagement and Networking

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective KMPS families, community leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a liaison between KMPS and the local community, fostering trust and collaboration.
  • Organize and participate in parent-led initiatives, open houses, focus groups, surveys, and informational sessions to showcase KMPS' impact.
  • Requirements

    Qualifications :

  • Current KMPS parent or guardian with a child(ren) enrolled in one of our schools.
  • Strong belief in KMPS' mission, values, and commitment to educational excellence.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences in-person and virtually.
  • Passion for advocating on behalf of KMPS and the broader KIPP network.
  • Strong organizational and networking skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • A proactive, positive attitude and commitment to helping KMPS grow and succeed.
  • Positive social media presence.
  • Current ability or willingness to learn how to collect and record data / information from families and community contacts.
  • Time Commitment :

  • Flexible schedule with a minimum of 10-15 hours per week.
  • Availability to attend school events, community outreach activities, and recruitment sessions.
  • Regular communication with KMPS leadership and staff.
