Essential Functions : The instructional assistant is responsible to the general and / or special educators with whom he or she work for daily consultation and direction as immediate supervisor, and, through those teachers, to the building principal and / or assistant principal for assignments and evaluations. Responsibilities : Ability to work well with teachers and students. Familiarity with school and classroom routines and duties is helpful. An understanding of child development and the ability to work with children of varying abilities are essential skills. Ability to develop skills to work with students with social / emotional or behavioral disabilities; including verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention. Ability to develop skills to work with students with intellectual and physical disabilities - including toileting and hygiene.
