General Information Position Number 014269 Vacancy Open to All Candidates Working Title Mentor / Evaluator Position Designation EHRA Non-Faculty Employment Type Time Limited - Full-time Months per Year 10 Work Schedule 8 : 00 am – 5 : 00 pm; Monday – Friday Hours per week 40 FLSA Status Exempt Division Academic Affairs Department College of Education (Col) Work Location Home / Field Based Salary Range Primary Purpose of Department Based on the established Early Educator Support Office (EES Office) Framework, approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBE), the purpose of this program is to manage and expand the infrastructure for a statewide system of professional development and support to early childhood educators, with or eligible for a North Carolina Birth-through-Kindergarten (NC B-K) license, in nonpublic sites, thereby increasing local and state capacity to effectively provide services to all eligible teachers. The program ensures that all aspects of the services established under the EES Office Framework are delivered in the designated region of the state, for eligible teachers in that region : those employed in nonpublic schools that hold, or are eligible for, the NC B-K license (NC Pre-K, Developmental Day, Head Start, Child Care). In order to receive services, teachers must be enrolled with the EES Office. All processes and procedures established under NC State Board of Education | Department of Public Instruction (DPI) policies must be implemented. Primary Purpose of Position The Mentor / Evaluator serves as a pivotal support figure for designated non-public early childhood education lead teachers, specifically those holding or eligible for the NC B-K license. Entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the highest standards of educational excellence, this role ensures the promotion of developmentally appropriate practices within classrooms. Utilizing the NC Educator Evaluation System (NCEES), the Mentor / Evaluator guarantees high quality classroom instruction aligned with the NC Professional Teaching Standards. This position is committed to delivering mentoring and evaluation services in adherence to the guidelines and procedures set forth by the EES Office, always in accordance with the NC State Board of Education | DPI policies. Summary of Position Responsibilities The EES Office Mentor / Evaluator upholds exceptional standards of practice by supporting assigned teachers within their designated geographic area (Region 3 : Mecklenburg, Gaston, Lincoln, Cabarrus, Union, and adjacent counties). Utilizing NCEES, they enhance classroom instruction and foster educational excellence. Minimum Education / Experience

  • Applicants are required to hold a minimum of a BA / BS degree in early childhood education or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Candidates must hold a NC Professional Educator License in the area of B-K.
  • Candidates need to have spent at least 3 years as a lead teacher in an early childhood classroom and have experience with the NC teacher education and licensure system and NC State Board of Education | DPI policies.
  • Candidates must also demonstrate prior experience in training, mentoring, and evaluating NC B-K licensed early childhood educators, either at the pre-service and / or in-service level.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of child development and the application of its theories. This comprehensive knowledge should extend to adult learning theories, particularly the evidence-based practices that underpin the design and delivery of effective professional development.
  • Familiarity with a range of state standards and policies, such as the NC Professional Teaching Standards, DPI’s NCEES, NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development (NCFELD), and others, is a distinct advantage.
  • Comprehensive experience and understanding of the procedures, guidelines, and implementation strategies of the EES Office Framework is highly desirable.
  • Candidates should have a strong proficiency in utilizing the NC DPI’s HomeBase / NCEES, as well as working with database spreadsheets, creating PowerPoint presentations, and effectively utilizing various other technology tools. This technical adeptness should complement a skill set that allows for daily interactions with educators and colleagues using technology.
  • With respect to communication, the role demands both potent strong and effective oral and written skills, with an emphasis on nurturing, listening, guiding, and coaching adults to build on existing strengths.
  • The position requires exceptional interpersonal skills, where the candidate is expected to seamlessly integrate into a mentor-teacher-evaluator team and contribute constructively within a regional structure to meet programmatic goals.
  • The essence of teamwork is integral to this role. Candidates should exhibit the ability to cultivate collaborative partnerships with site administrators and technical assistance professionals across sectors, ensuring the streamlined coordination of mentoring, coaching, and evaluation of teachers.
  • The candidate should have experience in facilitating Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), with a focus on supporting evidence-based teaching practices that yield positive outcomes for children.
  • This is a home-based position, necessitating that candidates have access to a computer, printer, and the relevant equipment essential for field-based job functions.
