Position Summary : The Intern, Laboratory Assistant will assist specimen archive in performing various basic laboratory sample storage and retrieval procedures to facilitate production. Responsibilities :

  • Receives and sorts specimens in the department
  • Records the required information in specimen archive log books, specimen accession sheets, workflow drafts
  • Sends and receives samples to and from different locations and departments
  • Performs simple laboratory tasks of operating equipment, printing extra labels, recording data, and specimen storage and retrieval and other clerical duties as assigned
  • Performs various housekeeping and / or maintenance tasks to keep laboratory and equipment in clean and operable condition

Experience & Required Qualifications :

  • Education : Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a life sciences degree.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred
  • Basic understanding of MS Office programs, especially Excel
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and work in a team setting
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle various clinical specimens and adequately perform all procedures as related to each department’s training objectives
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
  • Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual
  • Standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, manual manipulation, and lifting up to 50 pounds
