Position Summary : The Intern, Laboratory Assistant will assist specimen archive in performing various basic laboratory sample storage and retrieval procedures to facilitate production. Responsibilities :

Receives and sorts specimens in the department
Records the required information in specimen archive log books, specimen accession sheets, workflow drafts
Sends and receives samples to and from different locations and departments
Performs simple laboratory tasks of operating equipment, printing extra labels, recording data, and specimen storage and retrieval and other clerical duties as assigned
Performs various housekeeping and / or maintenance tasks to keep laboratory and equipment in clean and operable condition

Experience & Required Qualifications :

Education : Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a life sciences degree.

Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred

Basic understanding of MS Office programs, especially Excel

Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and work in a team setting

Demonstrates the ability to handle various clinical specimens and adequately perform all procedures as related to each department’s training objectives

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards

Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual

Standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, manual manipulation, and lifting up to 50 pounds
