Job Purpose

The Director of Operations oversees overall plant operations ensuring the achievement of production objectives at the lowest cost consistent with the company quality standards and customer delivery requirements; responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the production facility.

Essential Functions

  • This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  • Manage subordinate managers / supervisors who supervise employees in the manufacturing of company products; carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments and indirectly supervise the plant staff to ensure the achievement of production objectives at the lowest cost consistent with company quality requirements.
  • Direct staff in establishing production schedules to ensure timely delivery of customer products.
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement improvements in methods and processes to increase productivity and quality; review production costs and product quality and make necessary modifications in production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of facility.
  • Develop plans for the maximum utilization of materials, machines and employees.
  • Direct staff to ensure proper maintenance of equipment and building, and establish plant housekeeping standards.
  • Develop and recommend plant capital and operating budgets to ensure conformance to budgets.
  • Assist HR in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental and various regulatory agencies; ensure compliance with all quality, safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Demonstrate and coach towards respect in the workplace and the work culture promoted by company.
  • Must attend all company required training.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in production / operations management or a related field

  • At least 10 years' of related experience working in the manufacturing field, with at least 5 years of supervisory / management experience, preferably in food production
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with regulators, customers, auditors, plant employees and senior management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build effective relationships and work in a team environment

  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office programs (Excel)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing specifications and quality standards
  • Familiarity with HACCP, GMPs, Allergens and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Abilities

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, customer specifications, general business periodicals, technical procedures and / or governmental regulations

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as customers and contractors
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, probability and statistical inference
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Maintain respectful communication with coworkers at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to problem-solve equipment & solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to determine root cause of issues and diligently apply corrective actions
  • Attention to detail and high level of organization and time management skills
  • Ability to read and write English; Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines
