Position Summary :

Under the supervision of the Dining Room Manager or Assistant Dining Room Manager, is responsible for providing high quality, friendly service, sets places at dining tables, takes orders, serves food and drinks, and answers inquiries about menus.

Brief Overview of Major Duties (please see below for full job description) :

  • Greets residents and guests in a friendly manner within two minutes of being seated.
  • Answers questions about food and drinks including their ingredients, preparation and accompanying items.
  • Collects food and drink orders, confirms and repeats order for clarification.
  • Attends to residents' needs when delivering food and checks to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Maintains table appearance by pre-bussing, checking drink levels, removing clutter and providing extra napkins if necessary.
  • Gives a warm and pleasant farewell to guests.
  • Keeps station clean, sets up and takes down station appropriately.
  • Polishes glassware and silverware and ensures all service work pre-set and delivered to tables are clean and sanitary.
  • Keeps the Food Service Management Team promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.
  • May also perform work as a Busser and / or Food Runner (see full job description below)

    Has knowledge of Maricopa County food regulations and sanitation requirements.

    Is organized, able to multi-task, think creatively and adapt to different situations.

    Must be able to complete training on computer and / or other devices.

    Maintain competency in the position and knowledge of trade / industry advances and new technologies.

    Must be able to effectively communicate in English with all levels of staff, residents, and guests.

    Education and Experience :

    Preferably has a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

    Preferably has experience working in a formal dining environment.

    Licenses and Certifications :

    Obtains a Maricopa County food handler's card within 30 days of employment.

    Physical Requirements :

    Is able to carry / lift / push / pull up to 30 pounds.

    May need to operate a fire extinguisher.

    Is able to assist in evacuation procedures.

    Maintains the comfort, privacy, confidentiality and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services. Interacts with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.

    Maintains confidentiality for residents to meet HIPAA guidelines.

    Ensures organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as federal, state, and local regulations are met and followed.

    Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment. Reports all deficiencies to the appropriate person, such as equipment problems, need for repair or special needs of residents.

    Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures without causing harm or risk to self, others or property.

    Has ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.

    Consistently complies with Arizona State Department of Health Service standards. Ensures the safe and proper handling of all food items according to HACCP. Adheres to safety practices and procedures.

    Busser

    Ensures residents and guests are seated at a clean and properly set table within the shortest amount of time possible.

    Sets up the bus stand, restocks and prepares bus stand for shift change or close.

    Properly completes service sequences, i.e., butter service, water service.

    Empties trash and spot sweeps the dining room.

    Prepares coffee and iced tea and restocks during the shift.

    Offers assistance to residents and guests by clearing away dishes and glassware and refilling beverages.

    Cleans and sanitizes throughout the shift.

    Food Runner

    Expedites orders from the kitchen to all dining areas.

    Coordinates the assembly of resident delivery meals; checks all meals for accuracy; ensures the timely delivery and retrieval of all room service orders.

    Helps set Buffet tables and decorations. Replenishes food as necessary.

    Cuts, portions, assemble, garnishes, dessert menu items for assigned service periods.

    Completes scheduled and assigned cleaning duties. Maintains work area in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner at all times. Is responsible for the cleanliness of the service side of the kitchen line and service work stations.
