Job description

JOB SUMMARY : Bronco Wine Company is seeking a highly experienced Managing Director of Finance / Controller to lead the Accounting, Finance, and Tax functions across multiple entities. This role is responsible for overseeing financial procedures, tax strategies, and internal controls while driving financial performance and operational efficiency. The Managing Director of Finance / Controller will work closely with business leaders, operations, and sales teams to develop financial plans, ensure accurate reporting, and provide strategic insights to support company growth.

Strategic Planning & Team Leadership

  • Lead and manage the Accounting, Finance, FP&A, and AP / AR teams.
  • Develop and implement best-in-class financial systems, reporting processes, and internal controls.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to ownership and executive leadership to drive long-term financial strategy.
  • Assist CFO with cash management functions and financial agreements compliance.
  • Build new and strengthen existing capabilities within the team.

Financial Leadership and Reporting

  • Prepare financial reports, forecasts, and performance analyses in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop and oversee annual budgets, monthly forecasting, and financial reporting in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Provide profitability and return on invested capital (ROIC) analysis to support business decision-making.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of financial statements, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
  • Summarize and forecast company business activity, including income, expenses, and earnings trends.

    • Operational Finance

  • Partner with Operations to establish manufacturing performance reporting, assess cost structures, and drive efficiency improvements.
  • Conduct financial analysis to provide relevant insights for ownership and management decision-making.
  • Implement sound financial and accounting systems, internal controls, and meaningful reporting processes.
  • Oversee cash flow analysis, inventory controls, and inventory management, including trended inventory analysis, inventory turns, and reserve calculations.

    • Commercial Finance & Pricing Strategy

  • Partner with Sales & Marketing to support pricing strategies, profitability analysis, and A&P (Advertising & Promotion) effectiveness.
  • Evaluate customer and product profitability to ensure sustainable margin growth.
  • Oversee cost control measures and conduct financial modeling to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiencies.

    • Tax, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Manage tax planning and compliance, including excise, income, and property tax reporting.
  • Oversee all audit activities and ensure robust internal controls are in place.
  • Coordinate preparation of tax returns by staff and external accountants.

    • Qualifications

    REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in finance and accounting, preferably in the wine, alcohol, manufacturing, or farming industries.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and tax compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems, internal controls, and financial analysis tools.
  • Proven experience with auditing principles, standard costing, and inventory management.
  • Exceptional analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

    • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regularly works in an office setting 5-days per week unless traveling.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Employee is frequently required to walk and sit.
  • Employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment in required areas (Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head / ear protection, and proper footwear when in production facility and warehouse or while touring outdoor locations).
