Job description

Job Title : Activities Assistant

Position Overview :

The activities assistant is responsible for developing and coordinating community activity programs that reflect the varied interests of the residents and provide them with meaningful and life-enriching activities. They will develop programming that encompasses all facets of an individual's being : physical, social, intellectual, and artistic, and that includes activities in and outside of the community.

Responsibilities :

  • Supports the organization's mission, core values and goals, upholding and promoting company culture and vision.
  • Completes all hours of state-mandated continuing education each year.
  • Promotes and displays a spirit of teamwork in performing daily duties through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments.
  • Supports a positive and professional image through actions and dress.
  • Promotes the property positively and effectively communicates the organization's values to residents, visitors, co-workers, and the community.
  • Communicate with the department supervisors about activity programs and upcoming events.
  • Create a daily / monthly activity calendar that reflects the residents' varied interests. Provide them with the program dates, times, and locations and log attendance.
  • Coordinate and host all special events, including holiday events. Decorate the community according to current holidays or events.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of equipment for regular activities, keeping within budgetary guidelines.
  • Arrange and transport residents for regular and special outings, including emergency resident care supplies and staff assistance.
  • Cultivate and participate in opportunities for residents to engage in various community centers and service projects.
  • Possess and maintain a strong knowledge of the community, its benefits, the services provided, healthcare services overall, and the residents and employees.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in creating and coordinating activities for older adults.
  • Ability to supervise, lead, and motivate people.
  • Must have a valid driver's license within the state of employment.
  • Able to delegate responsibility while maintaining oversight of daily activities and major projects.
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment and training preferred.
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed / scheduled.
  • Knowledge of the requirements for providing care and supervision to the elderly.
  • Preferred two years of college specializing in recreational activities.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the English language sufficient to read, write and interpret administrative information.
  • Must be able to communicate with others effectively.
