The Opportunity
Vermilion Energy has an exciting opportunity within the US Business Unit, seeking a Sr. Geologist Based in Denver, Colorado this role will be an integral part of the US Business Unit, reporting directly to the Asset Team Lead. We explore, acquire and develop assets across multiple oil-weighted formations in the Powder River Basin. We are a small, motivated and collaborative team that values its people and provides work with purpose.
What you will do
Draw on broad basin experience, competitive intelligence, external expertise, and awareness of play types to monitor and explain activity and performance in the projects we develop
Collaboratively support the evaluation of plays by engaging multi-disciplinary technical expertise as needed, including petrophysics, geophysics, reservoir engineering, completions engineering, production engineering etc.
Develop and continuously improve a thorough knowledge of the petroleum system (lithology, structure, porosity, net pay, and hydrocarbon saturations, etc) of all productive zones within and beyond our core areas by integrating data from well logs, hydrodynamics, core description and analysis, seismic, drilling, production performance, etc, identifying geological keys that define high potential areas and optimal vertical & horizontal targets across Vermilion acreage.
Work closely with other team members to optimize field development strategies and maximize value.
Be responsible for leading well operations and monitoring / integrating geo-steering activity for horizontal wells
Monitor competitor and analog activity surrounding existing assets to identify new opportunities and technology enhancements.
Assess area land sales, expiring lands, and recommend lease extensions, new leasing, and farm-in / farm-out opportunities as required.
Drive geological evaluation for US acquisition opportunities.
Ensure US geologic tools are updated with most current industry data. Recommend additional data sources when economically justified.
Lead the team with the preparation of various maps and other displays. Upgrade the quality of display materials, especially those used externally or higher in the company.
Prepare and deliver presentations to management regarding development and acquisition opportunities.
Continuing education in geosciences to ensure technical expertise expands and continues to add value to the business unit.
Participation in relevant industry peer groups and associations.
What you will bring
MS in Geology
10+ years industry experience within the US and specifically the Rocky Mountain Region
Experience within the Powder River Basin is an asset
Unconventional (specifically shale) and conventional experience
Significant operational experience drilling horizontal wells
A style that is highly organized, results oriented, not afraid to take initiative and have a willingness to learn
Good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to clearly present ideas in both formal and informal settings
Highly proficient with industry standard software applications; such as Kingdom, Petrel or similar
What we offer
Competitive base salary and bonus
For this Colorado based role, the anticipated range for this opportunity is $165,000 - $195,000. Compensation will be determined by the education, experience, knowledge and abilities of the applicant
