Position Overview
The Office of Innovation and Systems Improvement (ISI) works with the Chancellor to align resources across the organization through innovation and continuous improvement. Our goal is to initiate change and lead DC Public Schools into the highest performing school district in the nation. After engaging with over 3,000 internal and external stakeholders to help shape the future of DCPS, we are guided by the five strategic priorities of the new Capital Commitment 2017-2022 Strategic Plan :

The Office of the Chief Operating Officer (OCOO) is comprised of the Strategic School Operations, Food & Nutrition Services, School Security, Facilities, and Compliance, teams. OCOO is responsible for guiding the operations and functions for all 118 schools within the District. Our goal is for all DCPS schools to be ready on the first day of school and every day thereafter so that all principals can lead, all teachers can teach, and all students can learn.
The Facilities division is comprised of two main teams : Facility Planning & Design and Facility Management. The Facility Planning & Design team is responsible for developing and implementing the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), school modernizations, and large addition projects. The Facility Management team is responsible for overseeing small capital projects, work order management, and sustainability across the DCPS Portfolio. The mission of the Facilities division is to equitably create and maintain healthy, sustainable, and inspiring learning environments by fostering strong school community relationships to allow students to thrive.
The Coordinator, Facility Planning and Design will be the point person for the school and the community throughout the modernization process. The Coordinator will be assigned to multiple school projects where they will manage the day-to-day functions of the project-specific workgroups, represent Facility Planning and Design, and facilitate the SIT meetings. The Coordinator is responsible for coordinating project-specific meetings and facilitating School Improvement Team (SIT) meetings with the goal to build relationships with school leadership and communities to support school modernization and addition projects. This collaboration will be critical to the planning and design of each modernization and addition effort. The Coordinator will work closely with school leadership, the Department of General Services (DGS), and DCPS central office to manage project-specific tasks and implement the DCPS SIT framework.
The Coordinator, Facility Planning and Design will report to the Manager, Facility Planning and Design.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Effectively communicates modernization milestones to school leadership, SIT members, and when appropriate, members of the greater school community.Aids the development of the school-specific Educational Specification for each modernization project, which drives the design for the modernization.Communicates the DCPS Capital Improvement Plan and responds to related questions.Serves as the face of the modernization project to community and ensures communication is clear and transparent.Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders in school modernizations.Develops effective methods to receive input and communicate project updates to school leadership and members of the SIT on the planning, design, and construction of the modernization projects.Works with the Engagement Manager, Facility Planning and Design to manage the DCPS’ School Improvement Teams (SIT) by facilitating the meetings, developing agendas, meeting materials and minutes; and coordinates all follow-up actions from the SIT meetings.Attends ANC and Community Meetings.Participates in the design review process and works with the Design Manager, Facility Planning and Design to compile feedback.Coordinates with DCPS Central Office departments to provide site-specific programmatic input.Participates in project meetings with the Department of General Services (DGS) and the DCPS Facility Modernization team to stay up to date on the project design and implementation.At times, the duties of this position will consist of school and community engagements, as well as summer construction oversight walks, outside of traditional business hours.Assists with planning and coordinating modernization related school facility moves.Coordinate with schools and DCPS Central Office departments to support the school transition process into swing spaces and modernized buildings.Liaises between school leadership / other DCPS teams and DGS, to address facility-related issues prior to building turnover.Occasionally serves on technical evaluation panels for modernization design-build services.Other Duties As AssignedQualifications
Bachelor's degree and two to four years of related work experience.Master's degree preferred.Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.Previous experience in public speaking and / or meeting facilitation.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a variety of audiences.Great interpersonal skills and good with building rapport and being a speaker-centered listener.DCPS Values
