Job Description

The Water Operator I / II is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of ground equipment, and buildings at the Water Production facilities. Duties involve tasks like flushing dead-end mains and keeping hydrants in good condition. This is a safety-sensitive and / or DOT position. Therefore, participation in random drug testing at the city will be mandatory.

Water Operator I

  • Prepare stations for inspection by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality by performing general maintenance, including painting, pressure washing, fixing barbed fences, and clearing debris from fence lines.
  • Assist in cleaning all Elevated and Ground Storage Tanks.
  • Checks the pressure, tank levels, chlorine residual, and ammonia levels.
  • Assist with the collection of samples, monitoring various equipment, and documenting pump hours.
  • Maintain and clean assigned facilities.
  • Flush water distribution system to ensure the CL2 residuals are adequate and record water loss data.
  • Assist with new water line construction process by filling and flushing of new water mains.
  • Maintain fire hydrants, sample station and auto flushers within the city by mowing and paint fire hydrants as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Water Operator II

  • Water Operator II performs all duties of the Water Operator I.
  • Record keeping of water operations documents
  • Perform entry level chemical analysis such DPD chlorine check
  • Perform water operations plant checks without assistance
  • Work under limited and / or moderate supervision, performing more complex tasks.
  • Address water quality and pressure complaints as needed or instructed by the supervisor.
  • Understanding process control (chemical feed systems, pressure control, flow control, chemical analyzers)
  • Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City's citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Water Operator I

    Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following :

  • Obtain Class D Ground Water Operator license (within 18 months of hire date)
  • Water Operator II

    Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following :

  • Class C Ground Water Operator license
  • Supplemental Information

    Knowledge of :

  • Basic mathematics skills in addition and subtraction.
  • Skill In :

  • Working with others, equipment, ground maintenance, and building maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to :

  • Operate equipment, hand tools, and do heavy lifting and pulling.
  • Carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Communicate effectively when dealing with resident complaints and department personnel.
  • Adapt and maintain flexibility in scheduling to accommodate overtime, special projects, and start-ups, and promptly respond to emergencies.
