The Common Architecture for Secure Environments-Virtualized (CASE-V) Systems Engineer supports the development, deployment, and sustainment of new and currently fielded CASE-V systems. The Systems Engineer is responsible for researching, implementing, and sustaining the cybersecurity security posture of the CASE-V framework. The Systems Engineer works in cross-functional teams to improve software, systems, and cybersecurity integration and development efficiencies across the PLEXSYS Ecosystem. Research and implement system and cybersecurity strategies in response to National Institutes of Science & Technology (NIST) Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Binding Operational Directives. Apply as applicable required Defense Information Security Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). Explore and provide integration strategies for third-party and partner solutions. Provide system hardware, software, and cyber troubleshooting and reach back support to on-site personnel and coordinate with organizations as necessary. Assist with CASE-V baseline cybersecurity configuration management, perform analysis to determine system viability and accuracy, and assist Product Manager with required architecture / framework changes. Assist in the development of the CASE-V road map with eye for cyber by exploring, researching, and testing new and emerging technologies and methods. Document findings using standardized methodologies.
Responsibilities
Configures Dell or HP servers as required by customer architecture
Deploys hypervisor technologies including VMWare, Azure, and Hyper-V
Develops network and system architecture diagrams
Conducts vulnerability scans on systems prior to deployment
Deploys simulation software to virtual environments
Optimizes the hosting solution for DoD training needs
Uses the SCAP Compliance Checker (SCC) to conduct compliance scans on Windows and Linux operating systems
Updates firewall settings to comply with security architecture and to facilitate operation of customer software
Writes hardening scripts to ensure compliance with security solutions
Develops scripts and / or uses COTS solutions to ease with the deployment of operating system patches
Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members
Attends customer integration meetings to assist with requirement capture and response to technical questions
Provides technical inputs to proposals and RFI’s
Required Skills and Experience
Advanced vSphere administration experience
Advanced Horizon Virtual Desktop Infrastructure experience
Advanced systems administration experience with Windows and Linux Operating Systems
Experience with operating system scripting languages such as BASH and PowerShell
Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure technologies such as Horizon
Familiarity with Nessus Vulnerability Scanner or similar scanner tools
Familiarity with “infrastructure as code” concepts such as Ansible
25% travel
Bachelors degree and 4 to 7 years of systems engineering experience
Ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance
Ability to obtain CompTIA Security Plus or higher certification
Desirable
Experience working in a DoD classified environment
Familiarity with NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, Risk Management Framework
Familiarity with hosting virtual machines in an Azure or AWS cloud environment
Experience working with Information Systems Security Officers / Managers to ensure systems are configured in accordance with security controls.
Familiarity with containerization technologies
