Academic Assistant / Paraprofessional

Part-time, Hourly Monday to Friday | 8 : 30-3 : 30 pm

18 per hour

OASIS Ascent = Observation, Assessment, Stabilization, and Intensive Support.

OASIS Ascent is a short-term residential treatment program for teenagers located in Provo, Utah. The families we serve are in crisis and need support keeping their child safe right now. At OASIS Ascent, we provide thorough assessment, around-the-clock secure care, and intensive support to teens boys. We provide a safe setting for adolescents to stabilize where they and their families meet with licensed clinicians to determine the underlying causes of distress and what next steps make the most sense for their needs.

We are looking for an Academic Assistant to join our team and be responsible for providing support, and guidance to students for their online class. You will monitor their academic performance and behavior. You will help students develop better focus, effective study-skills and coping skills.

You will work closely with the Academic Advisors and other professionals to ensure that each student receives the necessary support to succeed academically. Additionally, you will provide counseling to address any academic or personal issues that may arise, as well as help students set goals and create plans for their future.

The ideal candidate for this position has a passion for working with young people, patience, strong interpersonal skills and is able to provide guidance to students in a compassionate and empathetic manner.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with adolescents in a mental health or residential treatment setting. (Preferred but not required)
  • Able to pass all required background checks and drug screenings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of adolescent development and common mental health disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Teaching experience or working with teens
  • Knowledge of educational resources
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy and patience in working with teens
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff
