Job description

This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days in office at our Hartford, CT office location. This position is for Summer 2025.

CapSpecialty is seeking a summer intern for our Information Technology department to begin in May / June 2025. This position will support the application development teams in the design, documentation, and development of applications. The Intern will work closely with other team members to apply industry best practices for the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions. The Intern will also troubleshoot / debug code, analyze business processes, and support / coordinate activities with other functional areas as needed (e.g., BA, QA, and Business Partners).

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Assist with day-to-day tasks and projects as assigned by the manager.
  • Participate in team and companywide meetings and other employee programs.
  • In support of project / small enhancement execution – work with team members to design, document, develop, and implement solutions as required.
  • Troubleshoot and debug solutions as needed. Estimate completion timeframes for assigned work.
  • Coordinate / collaborate with other supporting areas as needed (i.e. architecture, security, and product owners).
  • Provide production support to assigned systems - debug and provide corrective solutions as appropriate.
  • Coordinate solution implementation with Product Owners and other functional areas as needed.
  • Participate in training and / or other self-development learning activities as needed.
  • Proactively learn about the broader ecosystem and business processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

None.

Core Competencies :

  • Rudimentary knowledge of relational databases, object-orientated programming and database development is required.
  • Ability to perform work with limited supervision and actively collaborate with other team members to execute against assigned deliverables, possessing good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of data processing concepts, particularly in insurance and financial systems.
  • Working knowledge of development best practices, development tools, and source control management.
  • Ability to perform limited troubleshooting / debugging.
  • Understanding of other functional areas within the SDLC while collaborating to provide input as needed and participating in planning activities with senior developers.
  • Good understanding of the basic concepts of REST API and HTTP methods.
  • Experience in using an IDE environment for code development and source code repository like GitHub for code management, packaging, and deployment of the code.
  • Should have used AWS or other cloud service providers for creating serverless functions AWS Services - Lambda, Step functions, S3, Aurora MySQL, API Gateway.
  • Full stack development – Python (Primary), Angular (Secondary).
  • Education and Experience :

  • A rising Senior enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree Program in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or Equivalent.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater .
  • Physical Demands :

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May be required to lift up to 15 lbs. at times.
