Position Overview :
We are hiring a Director, Portfolio Business Development to lead business development and customer introductions for our portfolio companies. This is a unique role within a VC firm—your primary focus is helping our startups win enterprise customers, close large deals, and scale revenue. As Motion Ventures’ first dedicated sales operator , you will act as a bridge between startups and potential customers , leveraging your network, industry knowledge, and sales expertise to help founders land strategic partnerships. You’ll also play a secondary role in supporting portfolio companies’ fundraising efforts by connecting them with the right investors.
This is not just a strategy role—you will be hands-on , working alongside founders to land deals, expand networks, and build sustainable revenue streams.
Responsibilities :
Open Doors & Make Introductions : Connect startups with key stakeholders within the company that make up the enterprise sales food chain, ensuring founders build the right relationships at every level of the decision-making process.Actively Drive Sales Execution : Work directly with founders in the trenches to refine their sales strategies, messaging, and pitch approach.Accelerate Deal Closures : Help startups navigate complex enterprise sales cycles, especially in $500K–$1M+ deal sizes.Leverage & Expand Networks : Tap into your own connections while building new relationships across maritime, logistics, and supply chain industries.Build a Sales Playbook : Create repeatable processes that founders can use to convert leads into customers faster.Support Fundraising (Secondary Focus) : While sales is the priority, you will also connect startups with strategic investors when relevant.Qualifications :
Enterprise Sales Expert : 8-10 years of experience in B2B enterprise sales, ideally in industries with long sales cycles such as SaaS, industrial tech, infrastructure, deep tech, or fintech.Proven Connector & Closer : You have a strong network and a history of helping companies land big enterprise customers.Industry Experience (Preferred, Not Required) : Maritime, logistics, or supply chain experience is a plus, but we are open to exceptional sales leaders from adjacent industries who can quickly immerse themselves in the space.Fast Learner & Relationship Builder : You have a track record of successfully entering new markets, navigating complex sales cycles, and building deep relationships with enterprise stakeholders.Hands-On Operator : This is not just a strategy role—you will be directly engaging in sales, introductions, and deal-making to drive revenue growth for startups.Fundraising-Savvy (Bonus) : Some exposure to venture capital, startup fundraising, or investor networks is a plus, but not required.Why Join Us
