Job Description

VersaDesk is seeking a Financial Controller to play a critical role in our company's next phase of hypergrowth. This position requires a strategic leader with extensive experience both leading daily accounting operations and driving financial strategy. The ideal candidate will be adept at supporting marketing-focused budgets, optimizing financial processes, and providing actionable insights to guide the organization through rapid scaling, profitably. This role is critical to ensuring financial stability while supporting ambitious growth goals.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Financial Operations & Leadership :

Oversee all accounting functions, including budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

  • Provide strategic financial insights to the executive team to support scalable growth initiatives.
  • Ensure the accuracy and efficiency of accounts receivable and payable functions.
  • Marketing Budget Partnership :

    • Collaborate closely with the CMO to develop and monitor budgets for digital marketing, advertising, and e-commerce initiatives.

  • Provide financial guidance on marketing spend, ensuring alignment with ROI goals and overall company strategy.
  • Tax Planning and Compliance :

    • Lead all tax planning and compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic tax management and ensure timely and accurate filings.
  • Team Development & Leadership :

    • Mentor and manage a team of three accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and excellence.

  • Build team capacity to meet the evolving financial needs of a scaling organization.
  • Insights & Data-Driven Decision Making :

    • Prepare and present detailed financial reports and actionable insights to executive leadership and stakeholders.

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, particularly within marketing and sales performance.
  • Process and System Optimization :

    • Drive process improvements and implement scalable financial systems to support operational efficiency and growth.

  • Enhance internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration :

    • Partner with Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain teams to align financial operations with organizational goals.

  • Act as a key advisor to department heads, providing financial expertise to support decision-making.

    • Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Strong expertise in budgeting and financial management for digital marketing and e-commerce platforms
  • Hands-on experience managing accounts receivable and accounts payable processes
  • Proven experience in tax planning and compliance, with a focus on cost savings
  • Demonstrated ability to manage advertising budgets effectively
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; experience with QuickBooks is a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team in a fast-paced, innovative environment
