Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

  • A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

Thefundamental reason this classification exists is to assist the Comptroller inoverseeing financial funds and transactions for the City of Montgomery. Thework responsibilities include supervising the accounts payable functions forthe city, preparing financial and / or accounting reports, managing accountingrecords and data, supervising two or more professional accounting and clericalpositions, and performing other administrative tasks related to generalaccounting. The incumbent makes recommendations regarding changes to accountingprocedures or the financial accounting system. The Assistant Comptroller issupervised by the Comptroller.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’sdegree with a concentration in accounting and four (4) years of professionalaccounting or auditing experience including one (1) year of governmentalaccounting and accounts payable management.

NOTE : Qualifying education, training,and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities toperform the job will be considered.

Kind of Examination

The current vacancy is with the  City of Montgomery Finance Department . If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be scored to rank the qualified applicants on the eligible register and tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
