    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Program Director, Athletics provides leadership in the administration of the district-wide athletic program, ensuring alignment with district priorities, compliance standards, and student success initiatives. This role focuses on program development, operations management, and stakeholder engagement to enhance the quality and effectiveness of athletic programs across all schools. The Program Director serves as a key liaison between school-based athletic directors, district leadership, and external partners, ensuring strategic initiatives are implemented effectively.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Athletic Program Development & Implementation

  • Develop and execute district-wide programming to increase student participation, improve athletic performance, and promote sportsmanship.
  • Collaborate with school-based athletic directors to establish program goals, align with district priorities, and ensure consistency in athletic operations.
  • Implement strategies to support student-athlete academic achievement and eligibility compliance in partnership with academic leaders.
  • Operations, Compliance, & Risk Management

  • Ensure strict adherence to GHSA, NCAA, and Title IX regulations, conducting regular compliance audits and providing necessary guidance to schools.
  • Monitor student-athlete eligibility verification, assisting schools in maintaining accurate records and ensuring fair competition.
  • Develop and oversee safety protocols, risk management plans, and emergency response procedures for all athletic events and facilities.
  • Coordinate game scheduling, tournament logistics, and championship event management to optimize participation and operational efficiency.
  • Financial Oversight & Facilities Management

  • Assist in managing the district’s athletics budget, ensuring equitable resource distribution and fiscal responsibility.
  • Lead efforts to identify and secure sponsorships, grants, and fundraising opportunities to enhance athletic programming and financial sustainability.
  • Oversee facility usage, maintenance, and improvement plans, ensuring that athletic venues meet safety and performance standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Public Relations

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote athletic programs, increase community engagement, and enhance the district’s sports brand.
  • Organize and lead professional development initiatives for athletic directors and coaches, ensuring continuous improvement in leadership and coaching practices.
  • Strengthen partnerships with local businesses, sponsors, and alumni networks to support athletic initiatives and student-athlete opportunities.
  • Performance Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish data-driven evaluation metrics to assess program effectiveness, student-athlete success, and coaching performance.
  • Conduct regular assessments and program audits to identify areas for growth and implement necessary enhancements.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends in interscholastic athletics, integrating best practices to maintain a competitive and forward-thinking program.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION :

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s or higher preferred
  • CERTIFICATION / LICENSE :

  • Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE :

  • 5+ years of experience in athletic administration, program development, or education.
  • Head coaching experience at the secondary level preferred.
  • Experience in compliance oversight (GHSA, NCAA, Title IX), risk management, and equity in athletics.
  • SALARY INFORMATION

    Pay Grade : 135

    Work Days : 252 (Annual)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of GHSA, NCAA, and Title IX regulations and their application in secondary school athletics.
  • Knowledge of athletic program development, event management, and student-athlete eligibility requirements.
  • Understanding risk management, health and safety protocols, and best practices for injury prevention in athletics.
  • Awareness of equity and inclusion initiatives to promote diverse and accessible athletic opportunities.
  • Skills

  • Ability to oversee and support school-based athletic programs, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with coaches, athletic directors, administrators, parents, and community partners.
  • Expertise in scheduling, logistics, and coordination of district-wide athletic events and tournaments.
  • Experience in budget oversight, sponsorship development, and fundraising initiatives to support athletics.
  • Abilities
