Construction (Rochester – 1 position)
Enjoy working outside? Assist in inspection of contractor’s work and methods so that the construction work meets the requirements of the plans, specifications, and special provisions. Perform field testing of construction materials to ensure that tests are performed accurately, timely, thoroughly, and according to specification. Document and summarize all appropriate data necessary to pay contractors promptly and process final contract acceptance documents to ensure data integrity and compliance with government regulations. Typical Hours (Monday – Friday, Overtime likely, including some Saturdays or contractor’s hours) 7 : 00AM – 3 : 30PM
Materials (Rochester – 1 position)
Assist the Materials Lab in performing various materials property tests on materials used for road and bridge construction, assist the Auger Crew with performing field investigation of place pavements and soils and / or assist Material Engineers with collecting and compiling data from various historical sources. Typical Hours (Monday - Friday) 7 : 00AM - 3 : 30PM.
Traffic (Rochester – up to 2 position)
This job is a mix of field and office work. Duties could include assisting with field studies, data gathering, traffic counting, asset management and reporting, field equipment inspections and tabulations, and database or spreadsheet creation. This hands-on position will also work with MnDOT technology and computer applications. Typical Hours (Monday – Friday) 8 : 00AM – 4 : 30PM
Hydraulics (Rochester – up to 4 positions)
Enjoy working outside and seeing areas all around Southeast MN? Assist the Hydraulics Squad Leader in inspecting drainage features like pipes, ponds, and structures. Use TAMS (Transportation Management System) tools to update databases and ensure features are accurate. Recommend repairs to pipes in poor condition to avoid damage to our State Highways and unplanned detours. Typical Hours (Tuesday - Friday) 6 : 00AM – 4 : 30PM.
Project Management (Rochester – 1 position)
Perform basic computer aided drafting and designing (CADD) and project estimates. Support project managers by drafting documents in Word or Excel, developing public information exhibits, and other work related to the development and management of project scopes, schedules, budgets, and stakeholders. Typical Hours (Monday – Friday). 7 : 00AM – 3 : 30PM
Right of Way (Rochester – 1 position)
Assist the Right of Way staff with ordering titles, basic CADD drafting, map updating, filing papers, scanning documents, miscellaneous errands, and county GIS property records research. Assist the Permits staff with permits, leases, and reviewing the right of way for encroachments. Typical Hours (Monday – Friday) 8 : 00AM – 4 : 30PM
Planning (Rochester – 1 position)
This is where big ideas begin. Planning is often the starting point for projects. We’re looking for someone who can help in maintaining reporting on the district’s program of projects. You’ll be part of the early development of planned construction projects. Work includes engagement on the district’s planned projects and MnDOT policy, and you’ll also be building and maintaining Planning’s GIS datasets. It can be a full summer that sets you up for future career success, while helping MnDOT serve the public and improve the state transportation system. Typical hours 8am to 4 : 30 pm, M-F – flexibility on working hours can be negotiated
State Aid & Agreements (Rochester – 1 position) May telework 1 day a week
Play an important role on our team to help draft and develop agreements with key city and county partners in southeast Minnesota. Agreements are key documents that support MnDOT’s transportation work done by State Aid, project managers and maintenance supervisors. You’ll work with a team to draft documents in Word or Excel and develop agreements for highway projects and maintenance activities. Your work will include mix of budgets, schedules and communication with local stakeholders, while also going into the field to evaluate projects, detours, and maintenance activities. Requires valid class D driver’s license. Typical Hours (Monday – Friday) 8 : 00AM – 4 : 30PM
