Get paid to hang out, play, and chaperone campers / clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and supervise other camp assistants
Work with and oversee activities involving our clients. Camp Counselors are also responsible for the supervision and direction of the camp assistants at all times. Ensuring the safety and security of clients and staff during our summer program is paramount. The camp counselor is expected to have continuous open communication with management, staff, and parents / guardians. When necessary, the camp counselor is responsible for resolving informal complaints and issues for staff and parents / guardians, including completion of any required documentation.
REQUIREMENTS :
- 18+ years of age
- Diploma / GED and an education related degree
- Two years of familiarity and teaching experience in working with individuals of all ages who have ASD
- Valid, current Oregon teaching certificate
- Valid First Aid / CPR Certification
PREFERENCES :
- Special education teaching certificate
- Oregon Intervention Systems training
JOB DUTIES :
- Supervise and direct the work of camp assistants including classroom plans and community activities
- Always represent us in a highly professional manner
- Implement strategies to achieve individual campers goals and objectives
- Plan, direct, and supervise daily group and community activities
- Ensure schedules are posted and distributed to parents / guardians, staff, site supervisors at least 2 weeks prior
- Ensure completion of required documentation regarding incidents, complaints, or suspected abuse
- Administer required medications and properly document on the Medication Administration Record (MAR)
- UPDATE ATTENDANCE FOR STAFF AND CAMPERS ON THE GOOGLE DRIVE DAILY PRIOR TO 10 : 00 am (MUST BE ACCURATE)
- Maintain emergency information for all campers / staff and always have available
- Attempt to resolve informal complaints and report to the site supervisor
- Maintain effective communication with the camp assistants, site supervisor, and program director
- Provide first aid as required for campers or other staff members
- Promote a harassment and discrimination free environment
- Report suspected harassment or discrimination to supervisor or management
- Review and approve camp assistants time sheets
- Read and follow all ACAP policies and procedures
- Comply with and enforce ACAP dress code
- Be prepared to walk 2 to 5 miles daily and participate in swimming activities at least once per week
- Other duties as required
HOURS :
30-40 hours a week, Monday through Friday
PAY :
20-$23 / hour Depending On Experience
EMPLOYER'S COMMENTS :
Camp Counselors WILL be :
- Walking 2-5 miles daily, using public transit, carrying a backpack with lunches and other items, possibly pushing a wheelchair
- Visiting and swimming in public swimming pools once a week or more
- Providing campers with assistance in toileting and diapering
- Exposed to campers experiencing seizures due to medical conditions
