The Cary Police Department is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Crime Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in supporting law enforcement efforts by analyzing crime data, trends, and patterns to inform decision-making and enhance public safety. With an emphasis on geographic-policing, Crime Analysts provide valuable insight that provides Police personnel actionable intel and informs strategies for prevention and real-time response. Candidates with previous experience in GIS / ArcGIS / ESRI are preferred as we continue to strengthen our agency's real-time capacities.

Typical Tasks

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of crime analysis applications to include various formulas, theories, and practices; comprehensive knowledge of the principles, methods, and theory of GIS and relational databases and how they apply to crime analysis; knowledge of database design; comprehensive knowledge of various software programs especially OSSI RMS and CAD system, Excel, Word, ArcGIS, Access, Crystal Reports and general knowledge of SAS software; knowledge of statistical principles; ability to perform spatial analysis of data; knowledge of police procedures; skilled in GIS and ability to create effective GIS maps; ability to relate social science theories to crime; ability to manage time effectively; ability to analyze crime data daily, weekly, monthly, and annually and put into easily understood formats; ability to use statistical formulas to make crime predictions and projections; ability to conduct research and solve problems; ability to manage multiple projects and to meet deadlines; ability to work independently and exercise discretion and judgment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in criminal justice or related field with considerable experience working with crime and statistical analysis and GIS applications. Completion of crime analysis and GIS courses is preferred.
