MyCHN is a nonprofit organization providing Medical, Dental, Behavioral Health, and Pharmacy services to communities in the South Houston and Gulf Coast area. We were founded in 2008 with one provider, three exam rooms and a big dream. Today, we have over 100 providers and more than 15 locations. Job Summary :
The Specialties Medical Assistant supports healthcare providers by performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks specific to a specialty area. This role involves providing quality patient care, assisting with specialized procedures, managing medical records, and ensuring smooth operations within the specialty department.
This role is critical in ensuring that specialized medical services are delivered efficiently and effectively, enhancing patient care within the specialty area.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Direct patients to the available exam room.
- Perform patient intake, including recording of medical histories and vital signs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Assist provider with specialty specific procedures and treatments.
- Administer medications and injections as directed by the provider.
- Instructs patients on the collection of lab specimens and completes lab information.
- May assist with translation as needed. This includes verbal and written.
- Obtain needed supplies and 'shared' equipment as requested by provider.
- Ensure rooms are stocked and prepared for patient visits. Assist with maintaining and ordering medical supplies as assigned.
- Discharge patients and provide patients with information as defined by the provider.
- Support Oncology Infusion Therapy Nurse with patient monitoring, patient education, and discharging of patients.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, including specialty tests and referrals.
- Performs EKGs as ordered by provider.
- Ensure all areas of the clinic are clean and orderly.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities as assigned.
- Participate in the cleaning, packaging, and autoclaving of instruments as assigned.
- Completes required documentation.
- Ensures that patient consents are signed.
- Assesses immunization records and refer for immunization as needed to meet DSHS guidelines.
- Accept other duties as assigned.
