The Environmental Specialist supports the AMVAC Los Angeles facilities in achieving and maintaining compliance with federal, state, local and other applicable laws, regulations and, AMVAC’s corporate objectives.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain regulatory records and prepare reports for air emissions, stormwater, waste, wastewater and other environmental related regulations and permits for federal, state and local jurisdictions
  • Prepare, develop, maintain, and improve environmental programs including ESG and training programs for the L.A. Manufacturing plant and AMVAC’s nearby R&D facility
  • Perform and document audits, inspections, observations and appropriate corrective actions for compliance and continuous improvement
  • Assist with incident investigations and reviewing appropriate corrective actions for environmental incidents
  • Represent the facility and participate in communications and interactions with regulatory agencies and related entities and with the community
  • Communicate and collaborate with the leadership teams and associates to meet environmental goals and objectives
  • Manage and assign duties for a direct report [on-site Environmental Technician]
  • Actively participate in the plant’s environmental, sustainability, source reduction, and waste minimization efforts and goals
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of environment experience required
  • Must have experience working with chemicals in an industrial environment or equivalent
  • Experience working in a chemical manufacturing plant with Hazardous Chemicals preferred
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations pertaining to air; water; storm water; wastewater; solid, universal, and hazardous wastes; pesticides; transportation; and safety
  • Experience working with EPA, DTSC, CUPA, Sanitations District, as well as local County & State Regulatory agencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of AMVAC personnel and with representatives of government agencies (e.g. South Coast Air Quality Management District, L.A. County Sanitation District, L.A. County Fire Department, CUPA, DTSC, EPA, etc.)
  • Familiarity with local regulations and regulatory agencies desired
  • Be able to work during off‐hours to meet business needs and support a 24 / 7 operating plant
  • Maintain a safe, organized and clean work environment
  • Must pass post-offer physical, background checks and other appropriate testing as required
  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BS (Bachelor's degree) Required preferably in Environmental Science or chemical orientation or equivalent
  • Related certifications a plus (AEP, CEA. CHMM, OSHA, etc.)
