Summary

The Parent Support Mentor provides education and supportive services to children and families in child protective services by providing peer-to-peer support and mentoring to biological parents to assist in the integration of family voice into children’s supportive services, policies, and practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to observe / interact with children across the age range (0-18) and their parents / caregivers.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to provide support, education and encouragement to clients and family members.
  • Ability to use personal experiences as a tool to support others.
  • Demonstrated personal qualities that promote collaboration and partnerships with the child welfare system such as integrity, good listening skills, ability to empathize, and a positive attitude.

Required Education and / or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a lived experience working with child protection services
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology / social work or related field
  • A biological parent with prior lived experience with child protection services
  • Spanish language fluency – oral and written
  • Compensation Information This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 21.
