About the Content Team
WilliamsSonoma, Inc. is the premier specialty, multi-channel retailer of home furnishings and gourmet in the United States. The Creative Team at Williams Sonoma is made up of designers, art directors, writers cookware, social media experts, content creators and visual merchandisers who bring the Williams Sonoma brand to life across all channels and engage with our customers at every touch point. Within that, the Content Team manages organic social, video, editorial, and copy-that's where you come in.
About the Role
The Senior Copywriter will help establish and maintain brand voice and bring it to life through copy across all marketing communications include website, catalog, retail, social, email, and packaging. The successful candidate will be both a strategic brand strategist and an excellent writer. S / he will undertake projects as well as manage and edit other writers. This position reports to the Director, Content.
This role requires being onsite in the Van Ness (SF) office Monday through Thursday
Responsibilities
- Editorial / Content Page Planning
Work with creative partners, including Executive Creative Director and writers to establish needs for each season
Work cross-functionally with Merchants, Product Development and Product Information teams to ensure all copy is accurate and compellingCollaborate with Creative, Content, and Brand Marketing teams each season to translate high-level campaigns into editorial, content-driven pages for websiteParticipate in campaign and content brainstormsOutline content pages that can support key product initiatives and collaborations; these may include collection launch content, quotes, actionable tips, how-to guides, and more.Develop briefs describing these pages for the Site and Creative teams to guide design and developmentSEO IntegrationCollaborate with SEO and site teams to identify topic opportunities each season
Align SEO-driven topic opportunities to planned content pagesIncorporate SEO best practices throughout copy while also balancing brand voiceBrand Voice ManagementDrive brand forward with a fresh and approachable voice
Create and maintain brand voice and style guidesKeep a pulse on the competitive landscape & how other brands are approaching tone and voice across catalog, website, social, and emailRegularly update the content team on how the landscape is evolvingCopywritingMaintain the highest editorial standards for all copy and ensure that it conforms to the evolving brand voice
Write upper-level creative copy for all brand communications-specifically website, retail graphics, catalog, and occasionally social and packaging-and ensure that voice and marketing messages are consistent across all channels and align with overall brand strategyWork closely with graphic designers in writing all editorial, headlines and taglines for marketing communicationsWork with creative partners to ensure all editorial copy, headlines, taglines and home page content are inspirational and compellingTrack revisions, manage and obtain approvals for all writing assignmentsCriteria
Bachelor's degree in English, literature, communications, journalism, marketing or related field7+ years writing experience in a lead copywriting role for an agency or brand (required)Excellent creative writing, research and editing abilitiesHighly organized and detail-orientedFamiliarity with Chicago Manual of Style and AP StylePrior experience working on highly recognized, industry-leading brands (preferred)Knowledge of food / cooking / entertaining (preferred)Knowledge of SEO writing best practicesExperience working with content management systems and FigmaExceptional resourcefulness and ability to find solutions to complex issuesAbility to think conceptually, ensuring creative tone / voice support the brand voice and key objectives of the season-and are appropriate for all channelsStrong interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional partners and ensure copy / voice align with brand strategiesA commitment to being a self-starter and staying focused in an extremely fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentExcellent prioritization skills, with ability to handle multiple projects across several seasons / packets / channelsExperience working with all levels of business partnersExceptional teamwork and project management skillsA creative, positive and flexible attitudePeople First

The expected starting pay range for this position is $102,000 annually. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
