General Purpose

The Pinecrest Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of Police Cadet.

The Pinecrest Police Department is a midsize police agency that maintains the highest standards of professionalism.  Our agency motto is Committed to Excellence , which the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) affirmed, when it honored Pinecrest PD with Excelsior Recognition on February 20, 2020.  This is the highest CFA accreditation level that a criminal justice agency can achieve and represents a level of commitment to accreditation unparalleled in the criminal justice profession.  The Pinecrest Police Department was also designated a Flagship Agency by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in 2010, and has achieved Gold Standard Advanced Accreditation Status by CALEA continuously thereafter.

The Village of Pinecrest is ranked among the safest cities in Florida because of low crime rates. This has been made possible by the fine work of our police force who are dedicated to providing the highest level of professional service to our residents, businesses and visitors. Non-certified applicants considered for employment by the Village of Pinecrest are sponsored to the police academy. Upon successful completion of the academy's basic training program, the candidate is eligible to take the Florida Department of Law Enforcement State Officer Certification examination.  Upon achieving a passing score, the candidate is promoted to the position of Police Officer.

To be considered for employment, non-certified applicants must meet the minimum qualifications indicated below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates hired as Police Cadets are sponsored to the police academy.

Minimum Qualifications

Non-certified applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications.

  • Possess a two-year college degree (Associate in Arts or Associate in Science); or have successfully obtained a minimum of sixty (60) college credits from an accredited college or university recognized by the US Department of Education; or three (3) years of prior full-time continuous military service.  Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a licensed driver status in the State of Florida.
  • Possession of good eyesight, including depth perception and the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Ability to fluently speak, hear, read and write the English language.  Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to be flexible with work assignments, days-off and duty hours.
  • Applicants must also complete all requirements established by the Village of Pinecrest for employment as a police officer.  This may include, but is not limited to, a written examination, an oral board, psychological evaluation to determine suitability for position, polygraph examination, physical agility test, a comprehensive background investigation and a job-related medical examination including a drug / alcohol screening test.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, non-certified applicants must also successfully obtain a passing score on the following examinations and include their scores with their employment application :

  • Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) OR, Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT).
  • A person is not required to take the basic skills examination and assessment instrument before entering a law enforcement officer basic recruit training program if he or she is a veteran as defined in s.1.01(14) or holds an associate degree or higher from an accredited college.  NOTE : Sixty (60) college credits is not sufficient unless a degree was conferred.
  • Additional Qualifications :

  • Must maintain high ethical, honesty and moral standards.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be fluent in the English language.   Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
  • Applicants must complete all requirements established by the Village of Pinecrest for employment. This may include, but not limited to, a written examination, typing test, psychological screening to determine suitability for position, polygraph examination, comprehensive background investigation, and a job-related medical examination including a drug / alcohol screening test.
  • The minimum qualifications may be waived by the Village Manager.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a licensed driver status in the State of Florida.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of organization.
  • Ability to perform several tasks at one time.
  • Ability to prioritize duties and meet department goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters and exercise discretion.
  • Ability and responsibility to effectively work independently, exercise discretion and independent judgment and maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the execution of duties.
  • Ability to get along with others and work effectively and courteously with fellow workers, officials, other agencies and the public.
  • NOTE : Once a candidate is selected, additional testing will be required prior to entering the police academy.

    INSTRUCTIONS
