The Animal Care Technician provides care and safety to animals which includes grooming, feeding, exercising, and administering medications, scheduling medical appointments, and transporting animals. This role also trains inmates on animal care and assists with search and seizure warrants on animal cruelty cases which may require catching animals and helping on-site staff.

Manages the care and rehabilitation of animals.Trains inmates on tasks required to responsibly care for animals.Secures and maintains sensitive and confidential law enforcement case information.Maintains accurate animal and medication logs, rosters, and other documents.Works closely with veterinary staff to ensure proper care of the unit's animals.Dispenses medication including vaccinations to animals.Conducts routine visual inspections of all animals several times daily.Maintains inventory of food and supplies for animal care.Assists in the development of inmate training programs related to the unit.Meets with the public, conducts tours, and represents the Office at meetings.Assists with evaluation of program operations and provides needs assessment.Establishes a professional working relationship with internal and contracted staff, other agencies, and volunteers.Maintains and grooms animals, including bathing, brushing, and wound-care.Feeds, waters, and exercises animals.Maintains equipment, cleans animal cages, and vehicles.Monitors and follows safety practices and procedures on a routine basis.Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Assists with emergency animal search warrants when required, which may occasionally require on-call presence after hours.Maintains good attendance to perform tasks as scheduled and / or assigned by the supervisor.Working Conditions
